The 1-2-1 development sessions for alternative music and musicians (including jazz, new classical, improvisation, experimental etc) are a first for GoNorth. These sessions will be an opportunity for musicians working , or wishing to work in ‘alternative’ music to meet and discuss their work and support needs with a member of HIE’s creative industries team. The sessions will be with Peter Urpeth, who, apart from having considerable experience in mentoring writers, is also a highly experienced musician working as a pianist in free improvisation, free jazz and experimental music with such performers as Evan Parker, Jon Impett, John Russell and Maggie Nicols. Peter also has more than 20 years experience as music journalist and critic in non-mainstream music (and a sleeve note writer for Factory Records amongst others!), writing for Time Out Magazine, Wire, Jazz Hot and many other notable magazines and journals.
