Radio Packaging workshop presents.. Ramada Encore Acoustic Sessions
As part of goNorth 2011, Karlie MacGregor, Freyja Harris, Rich Bradley, Adam Hamilton, Jamie Tillett and Becca Clark teamed up to learn about the art of podcast making and radio packaging at The Ramada Encore in Inverness under the watchful eyes of Richard Melvin and Sean Kerwin from Dabster Productions.
These intimate recording sessions took place on Thursday 9th June at the Ramada Encore, Inverness. With over 50 bands playing at the festival it was tough to pick who to bring into our live lounge but we are proud to present this selection of acoustic music for your delectable tastes.
Photos from live lounge can be viewed here.
First Karly and Rich get in and amongst festival delegates and panellists to find out more:
Sinead Cunningham
Powerful lyrics and lungs. Her voice fills the room and sends goose bumps racing over the audiences skin. Captivated, lost in her music, you feel with her, as she belts them out. Having moved to the Highlands and Islands, she retains her Celtic edge and fuses this with her blues and Motown influences – she creates a sound that sooths and builds up all at once.

Aaron Shanley
Aaron has spent the last two years touring the world so the stage has essentially been his home and he sits and plays guitar as if he shouldn t ever be anywhere else. His voice has a softness, yet a steely edge that cannot help but move your consciousness. His stage presence is beyond his years and he is a perfectly apt singer/songwriter for goNorth, proving that showcase acts really are at the cutting edge of the music scene.

James Mackenzie
James was brought up in Inverness and this is his second goNorth appearance, playing last year with his band Aquascene. This year at our acoustic sessions he played for us without his band and treated us to a new recording from his upcoming album. Completely at home on stage and able to use his voice to convey his lyrics, James is awesome to watch and we hope you enjoy his podcast.

Homework
Homework debuted at goNorth this year and played a banging session at Hootananny. We were lucky to get them along to our acoustic session as they are essentially an electric band. They have a great stage presence and were able to draw their audience in with their astounding tunes.
Stonestreet
Hailing from Latvia, and in their words, playing ÔÇÿheavy rock disco infused tunes , Stonestreet re wrote a song to play at the goNorth acoustic session. In true rock and roll style the lead singer Gatis, looks like he would smash up his hotel room and drink the mini bar dry. A complete pleasure to watch on stage, he looked comfortable in the cosy acoustic setting.

Maple Leaves
Maple leaves comprise three accomplished musicians, playing soft melodic folk tunes. Guitar melodies and flutes transport you to a tranquil place. Fronted by Anna Myles, who often can be heard as Fred MacAulay s co-host on BBC Radio Scotland.

Panda Su
Panda Su s perfect pop made the entire room sit up and take notice, her haunting lyrics and powerful voice and stage presence made an instant impact on everyone within earshot. The staff in the hotel stopped what they were doing and came in to listen. We urge you to check out her stuff.

Pareto
Kunal from Pareto treated us to a lovely song and melted a few hearts on the way. Strong melodies and soaring choruses suggest these boys will go a long way.

Sid Innes
Essentially a one man band; guitar, tambourine and harmonica in tow, Sid moves away from his past life behind the drum kit, and sings to the world a reflective repertoire. He belongs there; centre stage. Laughing and joking with his audience, he has a presence that makes it hard not to like him. Strumming away, he looks like Dylan and sounds like Beck, a perfect combination if ever there were one.
